STORAGE TANK CLEANING PROCEDURES

PHASE I – EVALUATION

  • Site evaluation of the work area and tank/tanks to be cleaned must be inspected to determine the extent of work to be performed and the type of safety precautions that will need to be instituted.

  • Safety measures will be installed to give the maximum protection to the individuals on site and to ensure the protection of the client's equipment and materials.

  • Training sessions for all personnel involved in the project will need to adhere to all safety regulations and environmental issues as it pertains to tank cleaning operations.

  • Daily safety meetings will be instituted to ensure continuity.

  • Inspection of the tank/tanks interior to determine work schedule, a time frame of project completion, safety precautions and cost of the project.

PHASE II – TANK BOTTOMS / PRODUCT REMOVAL

  • Authorization for project setup will be implemented and equipment will be moved into place after Safety Director has cleared the site for all work to begin.

  • Two to four-inch pumps (depending on size and availability) will be utilized to remove remaining free liquids in the tank.

PHASE III – DEGASSING

  • Once the liquids have been removed, then water tanks will be moved into place and the X4JH2000 will be added to the water tanks at a ratio of 10 parts water to 1 part X4JH2000 concentrate. By way of a discharge pump ( 2 to 3 inch ), the chemical solution will be applied through spraying apparatus (discharge pump and fire nozzle) for degassing.

PHASE IV – SOLIDS REMOVAL

  • Once the degassing process has been completed (approx. 24 hours depending on the size of tank) then personnel will need to enter the tank to evaluate the amount of residue (i.e., sand, scale, etc.) and begin the removal by using a high volume vacuum pump.

  • As the contaminated tank media is removed it should be deposited into roll-off boxes for cleaning with X4JH2000 to eliminate hydrocarbon contamination.

PHASE V – TANK WASHING

  • Once the media has been completely removed, then the process of washing the tank with X4JH2000 with a heated pressure washer (this equipment is mandatory).

  • Upon completion of the washing phase, the tank cleaning personnel will begin rinsing the tank clean and using discharge pumps to pump out the remaining rinse aide to a holding tank.

PHASE VI – PRESSURE TESTING TANK & INSPECTION

  • The tank/tanks can now be pressure tested and inspected for weak spots and leaks. The tank(s) can immediately be put back into service.
